より~ほうが

📘 Level: JLPT N5

Meaning

A より B のほうが + adjective

How to Use

より~ほうが is used to compare two things.

It means:
“B is more … than A”
“Compared to A, B is …”

This grammar is used when you want to say that B has a stronger quality (such as being faster, cheaper, bigger, better, easier, etc.) than A.

より means “than / compared to”, and ほうが means “the one that is more”.

The sentence focuses on B, not A. The adjective always comes after ほうが.

This pattern is usually used to compare only two things.
